Introduction

The Student Startup and Innovation Policy (SSIP) is a flagship initiative of the Government of Gujarat under the Education Department, implemented through the Gujarat Knowledge Society. It aims to promote innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship across academic institutions by providing structured support to student innovators and start-ups. SSIP creates a robust ecosystem for students, faculty, and institutions to nurture ideas from concept to market.

Government Medical College, Bhavnagar is a participating institute under SSIP Gujarat and actively promotes innovation and research-driven entrepreneurship among its students and faculty members. The institute provides guidance, mentoring support, proposal screening, and facilitation for financial assistance under SSIP to encourage healthcare innovations, medical research projects, and startup initiatives.

Objectives

• To develop a student-centric innovation and pre-incubation ecosystem in educational institutions.
• To encourage and support innovative ideas, prototypes, and start-ups among students across Gujarat.
• To facilitate financial assistance and mentoring for developing Proof of Concepts (PoC), prototypes, and intellectual property filings (IPR).
• To strengthen institutional capacity for innovation and create pathways from “mind-to-market”.

Support and Benefits

• Financial support up to ₹2.5 lakh for developing Proof of Concept.
• Financial assistance up to ₹1.5 lakh for Intellectual Property Rights (patents, trademarks, copyrights, etc.).
• Mentorship, incubation, and ecosystem networking opportunities.
• Participation in innovation events, hackathons, and national/international programs.

Eligibility

Any person up to the age of 35 years with innovative ideas is eligible, including:

• School students of Foundational / Preparatory / Middle / Secondary level (Up to Class 12)
• Diploma / Vocational / Undergraduate / Postgraduate / Doctoral students
• Alumna / Alumnus of educational institutions
• Any dropout from school / institute / university

Application Process

1. The applicant must submit the relevant online application form.
2. After submission, the applicant will be invited to present their idea before the SSIP Institute Level Committee.
3. The committee will review, evaluate, and screen the proposal based on innovation potential, feasibility, impact, and SSIP guidelines.
4. Based on the committee’s recommendation, the proposal will be approved and forwarded as per SSIP procedures.

Project Monitoring

During the project work, innovators are required to submit Progress Reports and Utilization Certificates periodically as per SSIP guidelines. These submissions are mandatory for project monitoring and are essential for the continuation of financial and institutional support under the SSIP scheme.
