History

History of the Department of Pharmacology is closely linked with the development of the Medical College Bhavnagar. The college began in the year 1995 in the premises of Sir Takhatsinhji Hospital Bhavnagar. Administrative office of the Dean was located in district T.B. Hospital. Department of Physiology & Biochemistry were accommodated in the old building of School of Nursing and Department of Anatomy was started in old T.B. Wards. T.B. Ward building was further expanded to provide space for Department of Pharmacology and Department of Forensic Medicine in the year 1997.

The Department

Department of Pharmacology started working with the appointment of Dr. D.C. Sharma, Professor & Head, who took over the charge on 13-07-1996 and more staff members who incessantly participated in building up and development of the Department joined as under:

Other faculty who contributed in developing the department are Dr. Jagat D. Bhatt, as Associate Professor, Dr. C.B.Tripathi, Assistant Professor , Shri Manubhai P. Patel, Assistant Professor (specially for beginning of Central Animal House), Dr Narendra K. Paliwal, Dr. Mrs. Hemangini R. Acharya as Tutors.

II MBBS Pharmacology theory teaching started on 10-03-97 and Practical classes from 13-07-97 after the set up of laboratories. First II MBBS University Examination (old course) was held in August 1998.

Department was shifted to New College Building first floor in the beginning of millennium year 2000 and Second MBBS university examination under MCI inspection for final recognition was conducted in April 2000.

The inspection of Medical Council of India (MCI) was held October 2006 for permission to start P.G. Cource in Pharmacology and M.C.I. has approved the department to take three P.G. students per year. It is an great achievement for the Department of Pharmacology and College.
