DEPTT. OF SURGERY AT PRESENT HAS 1 PROFESSOR, 5 ASSOCIATE PROFESSORS,10 ASSISTANT PROFESSORS,20 JUNIOR RESIDENTS AND 5 SENIOR RESIDENTS.WITH THIS TEAM THE DEPTT. IS ABLE TO COPE UP WITH CHALLENGES OF BULK OF WORK AND QUALITY OF WORK HAS BEEN RAISED A LOT WITH MANPOWER AND RECENT INSTRUMENTS.HERE A MYRIAD OF SURGERIES INCLUDING ADVANCED PROCEDURES AND SPECIALIZED WORK IS BEING CARRIED OUT,AND A LOT OF RESEARCH HAS BEEN GOING ON IN VARIOUS FIELDS.
THERE ARE FIVE UNITS AND EACH HAS OPDS AND OTS TWICE A WEEK .ALMOST 100 PROCEDURES INCLUDING MAJOR MINOR AND 20 LAPAROSCOPIES ARE BEING DONE.AND ABOUT 20 UPPER GI ENDOSCOPIES ARE BEING DONE WEEKLY.THE LAPAROSCOPIES INCLUDE APPENDICECTOMIES,CHOLECYSTECTOMIES,DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES, HERNIAS ,BIOPSIES,GJ ANASTOMOSES, LAPAROSCOPIC METABOLIC SURGERY, LAPAROSCOPIC COLOPLASTY, SEPS, LAPAROSCOPIC THORACOPLASTY,URETEROLITHOTOMIES,NEPHRECTOMIES AND LAVH. ALL TYPES OF ONCOLOGY PROCEDURES INCLUDING RADICAL ONCOSURGERY, CHAMOTHERAPY AND CHEMO PORT PLACEMENTS DONE HERE.
THE UROLOGY DEPARTMENT IS HEADED BY GENERAL SURGERY. ALL ENDO-UROLOGY PROCEDURES ARE DONE IN OUR SET UP AND WELL EQUIPPED WITH MRF MACHINE AND UROFLOWMETRY AND ESWL.
WE ALSO HAVE BURNS WARD WITH BURNS AND PLASTIC SURGERY DONE AND HEADED BY GENERAL SURGERY DEPARTMENT.

(2)5 SETS OF LAPAROSCOPY, 3 SETS OF ENDOSCOPY(UPPER GI)1 colonoscope, 2 ERCP ,ENDOUROLOGY SETUP, MRF MACHINE, ESWL MACHINE,UROFLOWMETRY, VENTILATOR, SURGICAL ICU, INSTRUMENTS OF NEUROSURGERY INCLUDING PNEUMATIC DRILL, ELECTRONIC DERMATOME ETC.

Institutional Goal:
The goal of postgraduate medical education in Surgery shall be to produce a competent specialist and / or a medical teacher:
(1) Who shall carry out professional obligations ethically?
(2) Who shall have mastered most of the competencies; pertaining to Surgery;
that are required to be practiced at the secondary and the tertiary levels of
the health care delivery system.
(3) Who shall be aware of the contemporary advances and developments in
General Surgery.
(4) Who shall have acquired a spirit of scientific inquiry and is oriented to the
principles of research methodology and epidemiology, and also possesses
the attitude for continued self learning and to seek further expertise.
(5) Who shall have acquired the basic skills in teaching of the medical and
paramedical professionals.
